The Medicare PPO Blue SaverRx (PPO) Plan Won’t be Offered in 2026
The Medicare PPO Blue SaverRx plan won’t be available starting January 1, 2026. Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts is committed to helping you transition to a new Medicare plan so your health care can continue without disruption. We offer a full range of plan options to fit your needs, including our new PPO EssentialRx (PPO) plan.
All PPO Blue SaverRx members should enroll in a new Medicare plan before December 31, 2025. Otherwise, they will be enrolled in Original Medicare and lose prescription drug coverage starting January 1, 2026.

Common Questions About the PPO Blue SaverRx Discontinuation
PPO SaverRx members will receive a notification letter on or around 10/2 that outlines the plan cancellation, options, and next steps. Members who enroll in PPO Blue SaverRx with an effective date of 10/1, 11/1, and 12/1 will also receive the non-renewal letter after their application is approved.
Yes, we remain fully committed to offering Medicare plans. For more than 60 years, we have been proud to support seniors across Massachusetts, and that commitment continues in 2026 and beyond.
We offer a variety of Medicare Advantage plans, and that’s not changing. For 2026, we’ll have three PPO plans, two HMO plans, and two HMO/POS plans. These Advantage plans meet the different budgets and health needs of Medicare eligibles in Massachusetts. We also offer three Medicare Supplement (Medex) and two Prescription Drug plans.
- PPO Blue SaverRx members can enroll in a new plan any time between October 15, 2025 and February 28, 2026. However, they must make their election by 12/31/2025 to ensure they do not have any gaps in coverage and avoid a Part D (prescription drug) Late Enrollment Penalty (LEP).
- Here are the key dates and milestones that you should be aware of:
- 9/30 - 10/2/2025 – You will receive the non-renewal letter, which is included in a package that outlines your plan options and key dates. This is the first communication you’ll receive about the discontinued PPO Blue SaverRx.
- 10/15 – 12/7/2025 – Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP) – You can make your plan elections during this time.
- 12/8 – 12/31 – This is the last chance for you to enroll in a new Medicare plan effective 1/1/2026 to ensure that you have no lapse in coverage (and avoid any Part D Late Enrollment Penalty).
- 1/1/2026 – 2/28/2026 – If you did not make an election before the end of the year, you can still make a change during this time. However, your new coverage won't begin until the month after you enroll.
We offer several easy ways to help you find and enroll in a new Medicare plan for 2026.
- Our website - Our Medicare website allows you to shop and enroll in a new plan. The site provides benefit information for our Medicare Advantage, Medex Medicare Supplement, Prescription Drug, and Dental plans. You can compare plans side-by-side and filter them based on what matters most to you.
- Medicare Webinars & Seminars - Starting 10/1, we will offer free webinars and seminars that focus on our 2026 Medicare Advantage, Medex Medicare Supplement, and Prescription Drug plans. You’ll hear about your options and be able to ask questions live. To sign up, visit our Medicare seminars page or call 1-800-262-BLUE (2583) (TTY: 711) 7:00 a.m.–12 midnight Eastern Time, seven days a week (except holidays).
- SHINE counselors- The SHINE Program is a state-run program. Counselors are certified and trained volunteers who provide free health insurance information, counseling, and assistance to Medicare-eligible people and their caregivers.
SHINE Counselors are available to meet at senior centers and by telephone. To find a SHINE counselor near you, call MassOptions at 1-800-243-4636.
It depends on which plan you choose. Many providers participate in multiple Blue Cross Medicare Advantage plans. A Medicare advisor can help you check if your doctor is in-network for the plan you’re considering.
Yes. If you enroll in a new Blue Cross Medicare plan, you’ll receive a new member ID card 10-14 days after you enroll.
If you don’t enroll in a new Medicare plan by December 31, 2025, you will be automatically enrolled in Original Medicare starting January 1, 2026. This means you’ll lose prescription drug coverage and may be subject to a Late Enrollment Penalty (LEP) if you enroll in a Part D plan later.
Coverage can vary between plans. You can check the formulary (list of covered drugs) for each plan on our website or speak with a Medicare advisor to confirm your medications are covered under the plan you’re considering.
If you become eligible for Medicare later in 2025 and enroll in PPO Blue SaverRx, you'll still be affected by the plan’s termination. You’ll receive a non-renewal notice and need to choose a new plan for 2026.
